About 4,600 Palestinian laborers and traders from Gaza went to work in Israel this past Sunday. According to the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), this figure represents a 15-year record for the number of Palestinians passing through the Erez border crossing in one day.

Some 12,000 residents of the Gaza Strip have permits to enter Israel. On an average day, about 3,000 Palestinians enter Israel to work. As mentioned, most of the entrants are workers and traders who have entered for work purposes.

The crossing was reopened under the direction of Defense Minister Benny Gantz, after being closed for two weeks following rocket fire from Gaza.
