Three Workers Killed, 17 Injured in Work Accidents Last Week

Fifteen workers were seriously injured and two more sustained minor injuries

Three workers were killed and 17 were injured in workplace accidents throughout Israel last week. Of those injured, 15 sustained moderate injuries and two sustained minor injuries.

Sunday, January 15

  • A 33-year-old worker was electrocuted while working in the Hefer Valley Regional Council and was evacuated to Sheba Medical Center in Tel HaShomer in moderate condition with burns on his body.

Monday, January 16

  • Youssef Mari Tarda, 28, a father of three from the town of Taffuh near Hebron, was killed when iron frames fell on him from a mobile crane at a construction site in Jerusalem. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Muhammad Jamal Zoabi, 40, from the village of Sulam near Afula, was killed after being crushed by a lifting platform. Another worker was injured in the accident and  was evacuated in moderate condition to the Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba with bruises on his upper body after a complex rescue with the help of firefighters.
  • A 48-year-old worker was injured while working at a construction site in Ramat Yishai, and was evacuated to Rambam Hospital in Haifa with limb injuries.

Tuesday, January 17

  • A 40-year-old worker was hit by a heavy object while working on the railway in Ashdod and was evacuated to Assuta Hospital in moderate condition with an abdominal injury.
  • A 37-year-old worker fell from a height of about three meters while working at a construction site in Hura and was evacuated to Soroka Hospital in moderate condition with a chest injury.
  • A 55-year-old worker suffered a fall during tarring work at a house under renovation in Sderot and was evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in moderate condition with head and limb injuries.
  • A 50-year-old worker fell from a balcony during renovation work in Givat Ze'ev, near Jerusalem, and was evacuated by the Palestinian Red Crescent in mild to moderate condition.
  • A 60-year-old worker was moderately injured, and another worker, about 70 years old, was lightly injured when a forklift fell from a truck in the yard of a factory in Petah Tikva. Both were taken to Beilinson Hospital.

Wednesday, January 18

  • A 44-year-old worker was injured by a machine while working at a factory in Lod’s northern industrial zone. He was evacuated to Sheba Hospital in Tel HaShomer in moderate condition with an injury to his limbs.
  • A 30-year-old worker was injured by a machine while working at a factory in the Emek HaMaayanot Regional Council. He was evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in moderate condition with an injury to his limbs.
  • A 40-year-old worker fell while working at a construction site in Kiryat Ono. He was evacuated to Sheba Hospital in Tel HaShomer in moderate condition with an injury to his limbs.
  • A 55-year-old worker fell from a construction site in Baqa al-Gharbiyye and was evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera in moderate condition with bruises on his body.
  • A 40-year-old man was injured by a disc saw while working in an apartment in Haifa. He was evacuated to Rambam Hospital in moderate condition.

Thursday, January 19

  • A 23-year-old worker was hit by a heavy object while working at a construction site in Tel Aviv. He was evacuated to Ichilov Hospital in moderate condition with injured limbs.
  • A 19-year-old worker fell while working in the southern industrial zone in Ashkelon. He was evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in moderate condition with a head injury.
  • A 20-year-old worker fell from a height of three floors while working at a construction site in Tel Aviv. He was evacuated to Ichilov Hospital in moderate condition with a back injury.

Saturday, January 21

  • A 40-year-old worker was killed after being trapped in a cutting machine in the Be’er Sheva industrial zone. Fire and rescue services report that the deceased was trapped in a machine weighing between six and 10 tons. The Israeli police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
