Histadrut representatives for the construction workers’ union, representatives from the Foundation for the Encouragement and Development of the Construction Industry in Israel, and Chinese Ambassador to Israel Cai Run visited the Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon on Wednesday to see the three foreign construction workers who were injured on Tuesday by a rocket strike.

The three workers were injured when shrapnel from a rocket fell on the construction site where they were working. One, a Chinese citizen, was moderately injured and two other workers, citizens of Moldova, were slightly injured.

“I received two of these workers at the airport four months ago,” said Eliyahu Ozer from the Foundation for the Encouragement and Development of the Construction Industry in Israel. “These are people who come to provide for their families, to build the country here. What hurt me the most is that I told them then to take care of themselves in terms of safety. It pains and saddens me that they were hurt in the end as a result of a security incident.”

“We have come to embrace and support the workers who were injured,” said Chair of the Construction and Wood Workers’ Union Yitzhak Moyal. “It was very important to me that they don't feel alone. We have assisted them with aid packages and will help them in the future as well in whatever they need.”
