Two Workers Crushed to Death Under Collapsed Building

The two workers, who were around 25 years old, were the 57th and 58th workers to be killed in Israel so far this year

Two construction workers, each around age 25, were killed on Friday after being trapped under a collapsed building in the northern Arab Israeli city of Tamra. Their deaths bring the total number of workers killed so far this year in Israel to 58.

Paramedics who arrived on the scene were unable to resuscitate the pair. “At this stage, efforts continue to locate all the workers who were there, and police investigators together with a work accident investigator from the Ministry of Welfare have started investigating the incident,” the police said on Friday.

An additional 12 workers were injured on the job over the past week, one of whom was severely wounded.

On Sunday, a 65-year-old construction worker was injured when he fell from a height of about 6 feet while renovating a building in Holon. He was evacuated to Wolfson Hospital in moderate condition with an abdominal injury. Another worker, age 24, was also moderately injured after falling from a height of about 10 feet in a construction site in the Arab local council of Ka'abiyye-Tabbash-Hajajre.

Four workers were injured on Tuesday, three of whom fell from a height. A 28-year-old worker at a factory near Rishon LeZion received moderate injuries to his limbs after falling about 6 feet. Another worker around 40 years old fell from about 13 feet while working in the Mishor Adumim industrial zone, receiving moderate injuries, and a worker around 30 years old was moderately injured falling about 6 feet in Kafr Qasim worksite.

A 27-year-old also received moderate injuries to his limbs after being wounded by a heavy object in a work site in Arad.

On Wednesday, two workers in their sixties were injured in separate falls. One worker who fell about 10 feet off a ladder in a Tzofit worksite needed resuscitation and is in serious condition. The other, who fell while working in Tiberias, received a moderate head injury.

On Thursday, a 28-year-old worker was moderately injured from a fall of about 20 feet while working in Or Akiva.
