The Arab world reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on Monday of an agreement with Iran to end the war. Saudi Arabia welcomed the ceasefire and called for an immediate halt to all regional attacks, the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a return to diplomacy mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. The Saudi foreign minister also called his Iranian counterpart to congratulate him on the agreement.

In the United Arab Emirates, which had suffered multiple Iranian attacks during the war, officials emphasized the importance of guaranteeing freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait. Abu Dhabi called for the implementation of an agreement that would stabilize sea lanes and energy infrastructure.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates emphasized the importance of full commitment to the terms of the agreement:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses the importance of full adherence to the provisions of the agreement, in a manner that ensures an immediate and comprehensive cessation of hostilities in the region, respect for state sovereignty and the principles of good neighborliness, and strict commitment to international law, as well as the protection of shipping routes and international freedom of navigation, including ensuring the free flow of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, to strengthen security, stability, and economic prosperity at both the regional and international levels.”

Joseph Aoun said in a statement: “I appreciate the fact that the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran includes respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, and the declaration that Lebanon’s stability and security are an integral part of any effort to bring stability to the region. The Lebanese expect to see how these understandings will be translated into practical steps that will end the cycle of violence and bring stability, security, and reconstruction.”

Nabih Berri, a key Shiite ally of Hezbollah, thanked Iran and the United States for including in the memorandum of understanding a clause stating that Israel would cease its aggression across all of Lebanon. He also praised the efforts of Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt in reaching an understanding that includes provisions for regional stability and security, including in Lebanon.

Jordan and Bahrain condemned Iranian attacks on their territories during the war, while expressing support for a return to diplomacy. Qatar announced its support for de-escalation.

The Foreign Minister of Oman said: “The American–Iranian agreement is a victory, at the right time, for diplomacy and common sense.” Hakan Fidan, Turkiye’s Foreign Minister, spoke with his Iranian counterpart about the agreement with the United States, discussing its implications for regional stability.

The foreign ministries of Egypt and Kuwait also welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran, expressing support for de-escalation and a return to diplomatic channels. The developments reflect a broader regional response in which several states have simultaneously emphasized support for dialogue, stability, and the avoidance of further escalation.
