“Next Wednesday, I will receive the official election results from the Chairman of the Central Elections Committee and Vice President of the Supreme Court, Justice Noam Sohlberg. Afterwards, I will begin consultations at the President’s Residence. The President’s Residence will be wide open to all factions and parties,” President Isaac Herzog said today at the state memorial ceremony for the late President Ezer Weizman.
Herzog emphasised: “I have already said that I hope the representatives will come with an open mind, and today I would add – with an open heart – to listen to and put forward ideas, and find creative solutions in order to prevent another election.”
The president also addressed the challenge facing party leaders as they navigate the promises they made to their voters before the election. “As we all know, during an election campaign, candidates naturally and predictably climb tall trees. But the election is over,” Herzog said. “The election results are an established fact – they are reality. And this is the time to say to all leaders: stop climbing trees and position yourselves in front of this reality. This week, at the President’s Residence, we will try to put up ladders to enable the leaders to position themselves in front of this reality in a measured and careful manner.”
